PETER Gabriel's defining act in Genesis was The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, one of those Seventies' concept albums that punk rock soon spat at.

Thirty years on from the notorious tour in support of that grandiose epic, The Musical Box pay tribute to Genesis's creative peak by recreating their intense musical atmosphere, surrealist visual effects and strange characters.

On Sunday, the show visits the Grand Opera House, in York, for a 7.30pm performance that incorporates the costumes, designs and lighting from those gloriously over-the-top Genesis days.

Conceived by artistic director Serge Morissette and musical director Sebastien Lamothe, The Musical Box are the only band to have been granted a licence by Genesis and Peter Gabriel, an arrangement that enables them to use 1,120 original slides from the original concerts.

Gabriel himself is full of praise for the tribute show. "The Musical Box have recreated, very accurately I must say, what Genesis was doing," he says. "I saw them in Bristol with my children so they could see what their father did back then."

Tickets cost £24.50 or £22.50 on 0870 606 3590.
