AFTER reading your reports about the difficulties people in wheelchairs face gaining access to certain shops in York, I wish to raise a point that most able-bodied people take for granted.

Having gained access to a shop people in wheelchairs have difficulty using the shopping aisles because they are often blocked by boxes, also aisles between clothing racks in display areas are not wide enough. Shop managers should hire a wheelchair for an hour and see how difficult it is to get in between the clothes racks. Then you find there is no space for a wheelchair at the till because it is surrounded by displays for other goods.

Let's make shopping a pleasure for all, not just able-bodied people. Make it barrier free.
