AS a York City supporter since 1957 I have just witnessed the most depressing season ever.

Billy McEwan has a huge job on his hands but I believe his reward for success would eclipse anything achieved in the past.

I was too young to appreciate the semi-final in 1955 but have seen promotions and giant killings, the 100-point season, the penalty shootout at Wembley and the thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The greatest achievement McEwan can do for our club is promotion to the Football League.

Obviously finance is at a premium and on gates averaging just over 2,000, there is little money to rebuild our squad. However, with money so tight at most clubs there are players released who will be looking for a club.

We have a committed manager,a board who are York City through and through, a decent ground and training facilities plus York is a wonderful city.

What we also have is a small band of fantastic supporters, who despite all that has gone on over the last few years, have continued to support the team both vocally and financially.

Apart from our 2,000 regulars there are many people I know who do care passionately about York City but can't bear to watch what has been on offer.

Let's hope a team can be put together over the summer months to put City back on the football map.
