I WAS truly amazed to read in the Evening Press that limo lap dancing is coming to York during Royal Ascot week (May 21).

Does Laura Macrow, managing director of Limodance, think we believe her when she says punters will pay up to £1,000 to watch a woman "dance" in the back of a car with no clothes on and there will be no touching?

How does one "dance" in the back of a car, unless perhaps the car roof is the height of a single decker bus. And secondly how will an alcohol-fuelled punter manage to keep his hands off a fully nude lady?

Presumably there will be CCTV cameras installed in each limousine to ensure the "big corporate boys" do not get more than their money's worth!

Mrs Cruddas states: "Everything about Royal Ascot oozes quality, style and fashion, it is a unique occasion and the eyes of the world will be on York." Obviously Mrs Cruddas has never been to York races and watched people leaving worse the wear for drink such as women, with hats askew, being half carried along by their male partners. We have friends who live near the racecourse who love watching the "sights" when everyone is making their way home. We should let the limo dancers come to the city during Royal Ascot week.

It cannot lower the tone of the place any more than the tatty fairground in Parliament Street at Christmas or the blow-up Santa's Grotto we had a few years ago and the plastic slides in the middle of town or the "big wheel" the council is so keen to erect.
