Outlawed Tollerton are hoping to make a return to action as a unit as soon as possible.

The highly successful Vale League team folded ahead of the new season amid pitch and player problems.

But there is still a chance of a revival with a meeting planned for the next few weeks to address the problems.

Former secretary Andy Charlton said: "It's all happened pretty quickly. We had a bit of trouble with the ground because people didn't want to play there until it had been improved and we couldn't get the parish council to improve it and we didn't have the money either.

"Then six of our players were poached by the Alne second team to play in the Nidderdale League and we couldn't get a division one standard team out.

"There's still interest in the village and we are having a meeting in a month to discuss the future.

"The success was there, we got to the cup final every year and we were a good Sunday side as well.

"But with so many village teams in the locality someone has to suffer from time to time and this time it's us."

Tollerton reformed in 1991 and had a string of successes in the Pilmoor Evening League with their all-local contingent.

They joined the Vale League four seasons ago and continued their brand of domination by winning division four in the first season, finishing runner-up in division three the next season then taking the division two title before they closed last season in seventh place in division one.

In that time, they reached cup finals in all four years, winning the Prendergast Memorial Trophy in 2001.

Six of the former Outlaws have joined Alne, four have gone to Kelfield and one has signed for Sheriff Hutton Bridge with the remainder going into early retirement.
