A NORTH YORKSHIRE company has emerged as one of the key players in the team rebuilding Wembley stadium.

Kingspan Structural Products, based at Sherburn, near Malton, is providing innovative solutions to the construction problems faced at England's new national stadium.

The circular design of the stadium, which incorporates a 210-bed hotel, 13 restaurants and 100,000 square feet of office space into the main building, means there are a number of complicated areas.

While construction methods are heavily dependent on using traditional concrete planks to create the floors, there are certain areas where these are not suitable.

This is where Kingspan Structural Products and MSW - the flooring partner which installs the Kingspan product - come in.

The two companies are providing the decking solution for the areas where pre-cast concrete planks cannot be fitted.

They introduced Kingspan's Multideck profiled galvanised steel decks to the main contractors, Multiplex Constructions UK.

The metal floor frames can be fitted into the new building and then concrete can be poured on top of it.

Multideck can be designed, produced, delivered and installed in the same time it takes the concrete plank to be poured and set.

Unlike concrete, Multideck can be cut, curved and shortened to fit the exact dimensions and requirements of the project.

The crane time committed to delivering Multideck is also a fraction of that required by slabs because all the necessary Multideck sections can be delivered in one go.

Kingspan spokesman John Williams said the project was very exciting for the company.

He said: "It's hugely prestigious to be involved in building England's new stadium. Most of Wembley is constructed using concrete, but there are certain areas where that is not possible, whether there's a curved floor or there are lots of openings.

"They needed a more flexible solution and we have been making this product since the early 1990s.

"It's brilliant to be involved in England's new stadium. We can see the arches going up and we know that we had something to do with that."

MSW is using a mixture of Multideck products on the Wembley site, including Multideck 60 V2.
