THE roll call of major Royals lining up to tread the Knavesmire turf during Royal Ascot at York can now be revealed by the Evening Press.

Some of the Royal Family's top members have agreed to attend the five-day festival of horse racing and high society, which starts on Tuesday.

The official engagements list, issued by the Press Secretary to the Queen, reveals she will be joined on the first day of Royal Ascot by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

As previously reported in the Evening Press, the Queen will attend on every day of the race meeting, but she will not be joined by Prince Phillip next Saturday. Her Majesty will be the only Royal in official attendance that day.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, will be in York for two days of the festival and Prince Andrew will attend every day, but will also be absent on Saturday.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, would be at Knavesmire for the first day of the meeting, but would be visiting the racecourse in a private capacity.
