Dubawi, third in the Vodafone Derby last Saturday, is one of 13 to stand their ground in the St James's Palace Stakes on the first day of the Royal Ascot at York meeting.

The Godolphin colt, a cosy winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas last month, will be dropping back to a mile in the Group One race for three-year-olds on Tuesday should he take his chance.

His trainer Saeed bin Suroor has also kept both Subpoena and Shamardal in at the five-day entries stage. The latter won last Sunday's French Derby, adding to his earlier success in their 2,000 Guineas.

Aidan O'Brien has three horses in the St James's Palace Stakes - Grand Central, Oratorio, who finished behind Dubawi at Epsom, and Ad Valorem, who could make his seasonal debut.

Other Irish raiders in the line-up are French Guineas second Indesatchel, trained by David Wachman, and Jim Bolger's Democratic Deficit, third behind Dubawi at the Curragh and a winner at Leopardstown on Wednesday.

The remainder are headed by John Gosden's Newmarket Guineas flop Iceman, French Derby third Rocamadour, plus Tucker, Vanadium and Kandidate.

Kandidate, trained by Clive Brittain, finished third in both the Craven Stakes and the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

He is also entered in the Jersey Stakes, but Brittain favours the St James's Palace Stakes.

The trainer said that Kandidate is working really well and has a great chance of success.
