CLERK of the course William Derby is hoping the ground will be good to firm for next week's Royal Ascot at York meeting.
The five-day meeting starts on Tuesday and with the current warm spell expected to last into next week, Derby is considering the possibility of watering the course.
"The weather looks pretty much settled and I will be delighted if it stays like this," he said.
"We had a lot of rain through May but the sun will be drying the ground.
"We are aiming to have good to firm ground for the meeting and we do have the ability to water should we wish to, but we will monitor how things progress before we make any decisions."
