STAMFORD Bridge won the battle of the undefeated teams in division nine of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League to leapfrong Sheriff Hutton and take top spot.

Anthony Downing and Jane Boddy ensured victory for Bridge by winning 30 games. They then led their team to victory against a useful Selby side. Appleton Roebuck, led by Ian Illingworth and Chris Hanby, are in the hunt for one of the promotion places after defeating Strensall.

Veteran Terry Haw stepped in for Fulford in division one at the last minute but could not stop Poppleton from taking the points.

Fulford II moved ahead of their first string after beating visitors Tadcaster, who are having difficulty in finding a good third pair.

Castlegarth won the clash of the unbeaten teams in division two when they met Civil Service with former Service player Sue Perkins and son Jamie playing for the first time since their return to the area.

Top scorers Sue Jacklin and Rob Osborne then continued their impressive season with a big games haul at Riccall.

Selby edged out of the pack to move third with a win against Dunnington. Games difference is very close in this division.

Ron Bell helped York move off the bottom of division three after wins against Sherburn and Bubwith. He partnered Karen Retief against Sherburn and included a 12-0 whitewash with Danielle Courtine against Bubwith.

Top-of-the-table rivals Copmanthorpe and Fulford both won again with Civil Service losing out at Fulford and Wheldrake suffering agaist Copmanthorpe despite the best efforts of unbeaten Dave Parrish and Lynette Duggleby.

Dunnington find themselves in one of the division five relegation places after suffering their third 55-53 defeat - this time against Cawood.

Wigginton II slipped from top to third after the visit of Heworth, who pulled back from a big first round deficit and now find themselves at the top, although they had no answer to Simon Drake and Ann Mead, who won all three rubbers.

Matt Lowery and Kerry Rafton kept Nestl in the promotion hunt in division seven with victory at Civil Service.

Leaders Wilberfoss left it until the final round to take the points at Sutton on Derwent and remain the only unbeaten team.

The more experienced players were to the fore in division ten with leaders Fulford featuring Madeline Hatfield and Jeanne Loadman in the win against Next Generation.

Heworth's two senior pairings of Tony and Anne Gudgeon, who are in their first year of competitive tennis, and Dave Ward and Helen Walker kept their side at the top.
