AS a resident of Acomb, I too am in the same situation as Mr Coldwell of Green Lane and offer my sympathy to him (June 10).

Some time ago a bus stop was placed outside my house, despite my raising objections with the council and First on the grounds of safety as this is close to two busy junctions.

The bus service operates every ten minutes during the day. Despite assurances from First that this stop is not considered as a "waiting" stop, I find that I have to make regular contact with them to complain that buses wait time outside my house, leaving the engine running often as early as 6.30am.

I consider this to be a total lack of consideration for local residents and an invasion of privacy.

Whilst most drivers have been cooperative when asked to move on I have often been placed in a situation where reversing off my driveway has been impossible because of a stationary bus.

My other concerns regarding this bus route, the No 1, are the speed and frequency of buses travelling down Danebury Drive. This is a 20mph road, with the restriction not always observed, causing local properties to vibrate when buses pass.

And is it really necessary to offer a ten-minute service when most buses are not even one-third full?

The condition of the road can now only be described as a disgrace. The blame for some of this must be apportioned to the frequency of the bus service but no doubt had this road been in the vicinity of the racecourse it would have been repaired or even resurfaced by now.

Mrs S Nicholson,

Danebury Drive,

Acomb,

York.
