WITH respect, R Waite's comments regarding the imprisonment of Tony Martin are entirely disingenuous when considered in the context of the rest of his letter (June 9).
Mr Martin was not wrongly jailed for defending his property, he was jailed because he shot someone in the back with an illegally held firearm.
Although the conviction was reduced to manslaughter on appeal, he was still held by a jury of his peers to have used unreasonable force in defence of his property and therefore is surely to be considered by R Waite as the "low life scum" he believes the system treats too leniently rather than a hero of Middle England.
