INTREPID Brenda Woodall is preparing to trek across the wilds of Kenya to raise money for charity.
The 60-year-old, from Fulford, York, who is a former nurse at York Hospital, is trying to raise £2,600 to be able to go on the gruelling walk on behalf of the charity Scope, which works with people who have cerebral palsy.
The group will visit a school in the Rift Valley to present much needed supplies and also to trek up two dormant volcanoes.
She said: "I've just retired after 42 years of nursing, so I thought this would give me a great incentive this summer because it has been a big change in my way of life.
"I've been out in my new boots getting fit and I'm not in bad shape for my age.
"My family have been very supportive and held a number of car boot sales."
