RAF Linton-on-Ouse has been welcoming flights of a different sort from usual this week, as the base helps to accommodate the influx of visitors for Royal Ascot.
Leading jockeys, trainers and celebrity race-goers have been using the base as a makeshift airport, with one of the hangars converted into a temporary arrivals lounge.
Wing Commander Colin Wood, Ascot operations officer at the base, said the operation had been jointly carried out by the Air Force and VT Aerospace.
Local companies had lent them equipment, and staff at the base had been given essential airport training.
Wing Commander Wood said the base had been used for private flights in the past, but never on this scale. They are expecting around 70 flights to use the base during the entire event.
