YORK'S Town Crier declared he was "heartbroken", after being snubbed by Royal Ascot at York.
John Redpath said he had been town crier for 15 years, during which time he had done much to help promote York Racecourse.
But no one had asked him to get involved in this week's prestigious event. He said: "I would have done it for nowt."
A spokesman for Royal Ascot at York said no slur was intended, but literally hundreds of people wanted to get involved in the event and it was impractical for them all to be involved.
