Yorkshire captain Craig White was today having a precautionary scan on his knee after being struck three painful blows while batting in last week's Roses match.

White, Yorkshire's leading one-day bowler this season with 20 wickets in Totesport League and C&G Trophy matches, could not bowl against Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road last Sunday because of the injury.

"Craig took some heavy blows in the Lancashire game and he does not think there is any serious problem but wants to make absolutely sure," said director of cricket David Byas.

There is still almost a week for White to make a full recovery before the first Twenty20 Cup match, also against Lancashire, at Headingley next Wednesday.

There is no question of him not playing in the game but it remains to be seen whether he will risk bowling.

Yorkshire are without any competitive cricket this week, so they will discus tactics and get into shape for the start of their fortnight-long Twenty20 programme when they will be hoping for a top two place in the North Division which will take them through to the quarter-finals.

They were holding a practice Twenty20 game at Headingley today and they will play another tomorrow before concentrating on specialist skills.

"Our players will then be taking part in league cricket at the week-end and after that we will be able to choose our squad for the tournament," said Byas.

Yorkshire yesterday were still awaiting the results of the scan on Matthew Hoggard's painful ankle but it is not thought that there is anything that a few days' rest will not cure.

Whether Hoggard plays in some of Yorkshire's Twenty-20s will depend upon what he and England feels is best and Byas intends to seek guidance from the England manager, Duncan Fletcher.
