THERE seems to be a constant stream of accidents on the A64 causing deaths and many injuries.

After waiting more than 40 years for the stretch between York and Malton to be dualled surely now, with the mounting death toll, action should be taken?

During the last few years we have seen money wasted on "improvement" which seems to have only made the problem worse.

Are we so impoverished we would rather pay the cost of such accidents, which run into millions of pounds in addition to the social costs of care, than to pay for a complete upgrade?

Constant road closures while accidents are cleared cause huge difficulties for local economies. Tourism is greatly affected and the money lost is never regained.

Why is it there is plenty of cash for dual carriageways further south yet the north constantly loses out? Are northern lives worth less than southern ones?

Maybe one day it will be dualled but at the slow pace and inaction we now witness it will not in our life time.
