I FIND it very strange that Martin Brumby has managed to turn a trip to the skips into a political points scoring exercise (Letters, June 15).

The skip site at Foss Islands has always had problems, more so on a weekend because people work during the week and tend to get rid of all their bulky stuff, grass cuttings and other household waste on a Saturday or Sunday.

Rather than blame the council or Yorwaste for poor management of the site, think why the place and the skips are full.

Believe it or not, emptying a skip into a big lorry takes a lot longer than emptying your household wheelie bin.

The site may close for a short while to allow the skips to be emptied.

Common sense dictates that you cannot have a big lorry emptying skips while cars and pedestrians are wandering about.

Imagine the uproar if something fell out of the skip and hit a vehicle or, worse still, a person.

I once counted 276 cars entering the skip site between 10am and 11am one Sunday morning.

If that number of cars were to be repeated every hour for the duration of the opening hours, maybe people can appreciate the amount of rubbish in the skips.

So, Mr Brumby, the Lib Dems are in power and the skip site at Foss Islands has problems, but it was the same when Labour and the Tories were in power.

Obviously they didn't do anything about it either.
