York were washed out of the Cockspur Knockout Cup on run rates after rain disrupted the replayed tie.

The heavens opened on the fourth round replay - postponed after the weather intervened in last week's original clash - with Doncaster still needing 72 runs with eight wickets and 22 overs remaining.

But the competition rules stepped in to give Doncaster a ticket to the next round by virtue of their faster run rate.

Miracles aside, York were a defeated team having not exploited a benign pitch and fast outfield.

Nick Kay and Mike Mortimer gave York a good platform with a second-wicket stand of 76. But, thereafter, wickets fell at frequent intervals despite Rob Flack's 36 off 34 balls.

Setting a target of 208, York needed early successes but Yorkshire-contracted quickie Chris Gilbert struck out with 14 boundaries to ensure that his side were ahead of the run rate when bad light and rain ended the match.

Doncaster now play Caythorpe for a place in the last 16.
