There's no Attraction in tomorrow's line-up for the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, but the Group 1 fillies' race still ranks as a major attraction on the opening day of the July meeting at HQ.

The Mark Johnston-trained Attraction has been scratched from the field because it is felt she needs more time to reach top form after suffering a minor injury in Hong Kong in May.

It leaves seven runners in the £200,000 event, including Soviet Song, who beat Attraction in last year's Falmouth Stakes.

Soviet Song made her reappearance at last month's Royal Ascot at York meeting and finished third behind Peeress and Sundrop, who she meets again tomorrow.

Soviet Song, who looked in need of the race on Knavesmire, could get her revenge on her two rivals this time, but the fly in the ointment may well be one of the three-year-olds in the field, Karen's Caper.

John Gosden's filly failed by a whisker to get the better of Maid's Causeway in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot at York.

Still improving, Karen's Caper, who was fourth in the 1,000 Guineas and won the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on her seasonal bow, can take the honours, probably at the main expense of Soviet Song and the talented Alexander Goldrun.

Gosden and Fortune also have a great chance in the Chippenham Lodge Stud Cherry Hinton Stakes with Nannina, an impressive winner on her debut at Pontefract last month. I fancy she can cope with this step up to Group 2 company.

Settrington trainer John Quinn has good prospects of clinching the £60,000 totesport.com Heritage Handicap with Zomerlust, who on his latest start scored at Ripon by two lengths from his stablemate Melalchrist. A decent sprinter in the making, this useful three-year-old should make a bold bid.

At Pontefract, the first two-year-old handicap race of the season takes place with the opening race, the Dianne Nursery over six furlongs.

Mick Channon could triumph with Musical Guest. Tony Culhane's mount has not had the best of luck. Two outings ago he was denied a clear run and looked an unlucky loser. On his latest start he was odds-on favourite at Bath but lost a shoe and had a slipping saddle when beaten less than a length into second place. He surely deserves another chance.

Whatever John Quinn's fate with Zomerlust at Newmarket, he has excellent prospects with my Nap selection Hilltime in the betfair.com Apprentice Series Handicap. An easy winner at Catterick last week, a penalty is unlikely to scupper his chances.
