WELL, well... so now we know, the well-off council house tenants in York can afford to subsidise their poorer neighbours in London, Manchester and Birmingham (June 23).

Good Marxist egalitarian New Labour philosophy I suppose, but I am not so sure many of those people affected will agree.

What is equally surprising is that this policy is fully supported by our local MP Hugh Bayley no less. His explanation to justify this generosity on behalf of the council, already labelled a red herring, sounds very fishy to me.

It just makes me wonder how many council tenants voted for Mr Bayley at the last election and how many will be voting for New Labour at the next one.

Surely, all those who supported Tony Blair and all his works cannot complain now.
