EIGHTH time lucky will be the hope of Malton and Norton GC professional Steve Robinson after he battled through to the final of the Glenmuir Club professionals' championship.

Robinson carded a three-over 74 at Selby GC to qualify for the final at the Prince's course in Kent on June 13-16. He will be joined by Selby's Nick Ludwell, who tamed his home course on a rain and gale-lashed day with a level-par 71, one adrift of the qualifying winner Spaldington Golf Centre's Rob Bundy.

The Malton and Norton ace described the qualifier as a real dig-in day', adding: "The wind was blowing a gale. It was so hard that it was just a case of getting your head down and getting the ball round.

"I was glad to be able to keep my hand in and Nick played ever so well because there's extra pressure when it's your own course. People always say you should know your way around but the golf ball doesn't know that."

Robinson certainly knows his way around the Glenmuir event, having previously played in seven finals. He recalled his best performances were a 20th at North Berwick and similar finish at Saunton Sands several years ago after he was third following the first two rounds.

He's also no stranger to the Prince's course at which American legend Gene Sarazen won The Open in 1932. Robinson played the testing links course in a qualifier for The Open in the early 1990s.

"The Glenmuir is the national championship for club pros, so I'm happy that I'm still proving to be competitive," said the man whose coaching skills are in high demand.
