YORK'S teenage tycoons have "wowed" the business world again.

The team of entrepreneurs from Huntington School had already won the city final of the Young Enterprise competition, in which pupils set up and run their own business. Now they have taken the North Yorkshire title.

The 16 and 17-year-olds beat three others schools from across the county to be named champions at the final in Harrogate.

Led by managing director Craig Allison, 16, the Huntington students devised, designed and marketed The Wow Food And Drink Guide, filled with entries about York restaurants and hotels alongside recipes supplied by their chefs.

Judges awarded them top prize after learning about the twin revenues generated by the company, from both display advertising and sales of the book.

The victory came only days after the teenagers gave a presentation to York business leaders and the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Janet Greenwood, at a dinner in their honour held at One19 The Mount restaurant. One executive was so impressed that he offered to be their "business angel" if they decided to pursue the venture further. At least two of the students are considering doing just that.

Helen Coupland-Smith, head of business and ITC at Huntington School, said: "They have picked themselves up and remotivated themselves time and time again."

Paul Blanchard, York chairman of Young Enterprise, said: "The Huntington School team really do have the wow factor. I can see them going all the way to the national final - and their guide going on to the bestseller lists."
