TO LABEL Drive By Truckers a Lynryd Skynyrd tribute band would be to miss several tricks.
The deep southerners have evolved once more on their seventh LP.
While not on a par with their superb The Dirty South, it contains a smattering of rock gems that should reach far beyond the Mason Dixon Line.
The numerous writers have in effect created three records in one, each with different mood.
Judicious use of the programme bottom will be required.
For example, the title track and Gravity's Gone will surely be a favourite at redneck-themed parties in West Wetwang and elsewhere, and the troubled themes will appeal to men and boys with a heart.
The material is not that memorable but is sufficiently mainstream to catapult them to bigger arenas - potentially a blessing and a curse.
