A MAN who abused a police officer, then spat in his face at York Railway Station has been jailed for 18 weeks.
Dominic Regan Smith, aged 30, of no fixed address was sentenced at York Magistrates Court after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer.
The court heard that on Friday, February 18, Smith was approached by British Transport Police officer Nick Storey, as he slept on a table at Coppers Bar, in York Railway Station.
PC Storey checked if he was okay, then asked Smith, who had been drinking, to leave the premises. The court heard Smith began to verbally abuse PC Storey, swearing and shouting at him. Smith was then arrested for being drunk and disordily. As he attempted to resist arrest a struggle ensued, he was handcuffed, then spat in the officer’s face.
