ONE of the most magical musicals on stage and screen is coming to York.

The Wizard Of Oz will be presented by York Musical Theatre Company, after it launched a search for its very own Dorothy to take the lead.

The part has gone to Eleanor Leaper, 13, from Haxby, who beat off strong competition to win the role in the production at York Theatre Royal from May 18 to 22.

The company has also cast 40 Munchkins for the show, which will be directed by Paul Laidlaw, the company's director and musical director. He said: “I’m looking forward to discovering some of the brilliant young talent that I know exists in this region for musical theatre and being able to give someone the great opportunity of performing on a professional theatre’s stage.”

Booking is open now for tickets, which range from £10 to £18, with a great family ticket offer available. Phone the Theatre Royal box office on 01904 623568 or book online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
