CREATIVITY and an eye for detail have helped a Hempland Primary School pupil to be a prizewinner in a “Mini Me” art competition.

This snowman card created by six-year-old Abigail Ashby was chosen from 12,000 entries to be the overall winner for her age group.

As part of her prize, Abigail and her friends have chosen to adopt a donkey, called Simon.

He lives at the Elizabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys in Leeds, which provides riding therapy for children with special needs and disabilities.

Cheryl Whaley, Abigail’s teacher, said: “All the Key Stage 1 and Early Years children created some fantastic works of art and their pictures were made into wonderful greetings cards, thanks to a fund raising initiative organised by The Friends of Hempland.”
