Tadcaster Swim Squad’s annual championships were graced by 156 personal best times out of the 187 swims – and no fewer than nine new club records.
A total of 50 swimmers, aged between eight and 16, took part.
Many of the previous best times had stood for many years, some dating back to 2002.
The club records were posted by Copmanthorpe’s Fergus Whittaker (8yrs) in the 50 metres butterfly and 100m individual medley; Jonathon White (11yrs), from Tadcaster, for the 100m breaststroke; Kiri Armstrong (12yrs), also from Tadcaster, in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke; Garforth’s Joe Hewison (13yrs) in the 100m breaststroke and 200m IM; Robert Jones (16yrs), from Boston Spa, in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
The club’s next outing will be to the Spring Yorkshire Championships for those who have clocked qualifying times.
The next gala for the club is an event organised by the Scarborough Kingfishers Swimming Club in March when 30 Tadcaster swimmers will compete.
