NORTH Yorkshire teenager Adam Parsley is intent on carving out a career in motorsport.

The up and coming racer first climbed into a kart at York’s F1 Racing six years ago and since then the 16-year-old has been pitting his skills against the best in the UK at circuits at home and abroad.

Harrogate-based Parsley spent the summer competing in the prestigious Formula Kart Stars series backed by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone and former champion Lewis Hamilton.

And, with his sights set on the next big step, the Rossett School pupil recently travelled to Silverstone, where he climbed into the cockpit of a real racing car for the first time.

A shake-down ahead of a potential entry in the inaugural British Racing and Sports Car Club’s Junior Formula Ford championship went well and the hunt for sponsors to join backers The Flow Group is under way.

But, in the meantime, the young race ace will be earning what he can by working at the York R1 Racing track where he first raced.

“Everyone has to start somewhere and I see the indoor circuit at York as my first ‘home’ track,” said Parsley. “I have to do what I can to pay my way and I’m delighted I’ve been able to come back to where it all started. My job is to do my bit to ensure customers enjoy their race event.”

As well as gaining experience on the track, Parsley will enrol for a two-year national diploma in motorsport at Myerscough College, near Preston, next year.

He will also be karting with Sheffield-based S8 Racing this winter.
