MORE than £220,000-worth of cannabis has been seized by four police forces in a purge against drug crime.
Police from West, North and South Yorkshire and Humberside worked together during the month-long blitz dubbed Operation Yorkshire.
Detective Inspector Kevin Mews described the seizures as a “fantastic” achievement.
He said: “It shows working collaboratively means we are focussing on crime and not borders, across the whole of the region. Cannabis cultivation remains a significant national problem both in respect of commercial and domestic use.
“A lot of the success we enjoy comes from the vigilance of the public. Without their help it would be much harder to detect this offending.”
The biggest seizure was in West Yorkshire by the Regional Roads Policing Team who uncovered in excess of £50,000 worth of cannabis in a vehicle travelling on the M621. In North Yorkshire police executed warrants on two premises in Harrogate and a total of 118 cannabis plants were found. Two people were consequently arrested.
In Scarborough, traffic officers arrested one person after a vehicle was stop-checked and 1kg of cannabis was found, valued at approximately £6,000.
Anything suspicious should be reported to North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
