A DITCHED scheme to create an outdoor adventure centre in York could be resurrected after the owners of the land where it would have been based vowed not to give up on the project.

Plans to build an extreme rope course for adventure-seekers on the edge of the city – which could have attracted 20,000 visitors a year – have been dropped by the North Yorkshire firm which showed an interest in bringing its operating to the area.

Bedale-based Aerial Extreme withdrew its planning application for the 36-obstacle facility at Clifton Moor Gate earlier this week following criticism of the proposals from Wigginton Parish Council, and has not commented on whether it will resubmit the plans.

But Lorna and Mario Marchi, the owners of the 50-acre site near the Outer Ring Road where the course was intended to be launched – which also houses York Riding School, Creepy Crawlies adventure playground and the Clifton Gate Business Park – are now looking to find another firm interested in reviving the scheme.

“It was a first-class project, a first-class vision, and it is a shame if Aerial Extreme feels it wasnot made welcome when it submitted its plans,” said Lorna.

“We believe it was an excellent idea which would have brought jobs and interest to the city and we noticed there was some very positive feedback despite the objections, so we’re disappointed the application has been withdrawn. Now we want to continue with the idea and we will be looking for another company who may want to produce a scheme as good as the one Aerial Extreme proposed. It would only take up a small area of the site and fit in with what is already there, and we feel it is something people want.”
