THIRSK and Sowerby Harriers 10-mile race attracted more than 1,000 runners from across the country.

Leeds City athlete David Webb won in 48 minutes and 32 seconds, 22 seconds clear of second-placed Andrew Pearson of Longwood. Sarah Jarvis of Bingley Harriers won the ladies’ race in 58.27. While the bulk of Thirsk and Sowerby members did a stalwart job in marking out the course and marshalling the race, a handful of members did actually compete led by Gary Dunn, who was tenth in 52-55.

Others were: Robert Durkin 170th 65-12, Julian Norton 173rd 65-29, Peter Huxley 479th 76-16 and Christopher Green 574th 79-03. New member Nick Searle, running for former club Episkopi, was 266th in 69-07.

Richard Hall was seventh in 35-08 in the Clay Bank West Fell race, race three of the winter series, less than five minutes behind the winner, Matt Speake of Dark Peak FR.

Other Thirsk finishers were: Cameron Choules 32nd in 40-57, Angela Hall 51st, and second V50, in 42-51 and Ernie Huck 89th, and first V65, in 47-58.
