THE shadow Foreign Secretary, William Hague, will be top speaker at the next York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce annual dinner at York’s National Railway Museum on March 18.

Susie Cawood, boss of the regional chamber, announced today that the Yorkshire-born MP for Richmond and former Conservative Party leader, pictured, had finally agreed to attend, after seven years of trying to get him to synchronise dates.

Mrs Cawood said: “His speech should take on huge significance as we get closer to a general election. Last year our event was visited by 640 business people – the biggest event of its kind in the region.

“But this time everyone should book early. Mr Hague’s presence is likely to mean a rush on reservations.”
