THE family of tragic York teenager Rory Johnson has been hit by further trauma after his brother Danny suffered another seizure – and his grandmother also collapsed.

Danny, 20, first fell ill when Rory was in a coma at York Hospital, and the pair were both briefly lying in adjoining beds in the intensive care unit.

Rory, 18, of Osbaldwick Lane, who suffered from acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, a one in 2.5 million disease of the brain and spinal cord, later died, but Danny, who had suffered two fits, appeared to make a full recovery.

However, his mother Valerie said only a day after Rory’s funeral on November 27, Danny suffered another seizure.

“He was rushed to York Hospital Accident & Emergency and admitted,” she said. “After various tests, including another MRI and EEGs, the doctors decided it was probably related to a head injury he suffered three years ago in a road accident, and was induced by all the stress and shock he has suffered, and lack of sleep.”

She said Danny would go for further tests, but doctors were now satisfied he had definitely not suffered from ADEM.

She revealed that the day after Danny was admitted, her mother, Mary Clarke, was also rushed by ambulance to A&E after collapsing at the breakfast table.

She was allowed home after a check-up, and doctors believed she had fainted because of all the stress she had been under.

She said Danny had been discharged from hospital three days later and he was now feeling much better.

She revealed that £575 had been raised at Rory’s funeral for the Brain And Spine Foundation, which carries out research into conditions including ADEM.

The packed serviced at St Aelred’s Roman Catholic Church heard an emotional address by Rory’s sister Keira, who said Rory had had his whole life ahead of him.

She said: “We are so sorry we couldn’t help you and we’re so sorry to have to say goodbye to you. Please know that we will love you and miss you every single day.”
