How many of us going into York see vehicles all struggling to unload their goods before the time limit on a morning in the city, mounting pavements, with bollards pushed over and signs on buildings clipped from time to time.

It’s getting dangerous in many respects. I see many early morning shoppers squeezing or creeping behind moving vehicles.

It’s not an ideal situation in this city and many of its citizens should not have to be risking there lives this way, with people who may have disabilities and special needs all in fear of being trapped or crushed by a driver not seeing them, in their attempt to find their distribution point in the city. This is no fault of the driver in many cases.

The council has to consider night deliveries for this city as an alternative in the future, to give all drivers a chance to unload in a relaxed situation without wondering whether they may cause an accident or how long unloading is going to take, and waiting to get unloaded instead of having to rush.

This has been done in some other cities and towns with success, so why not here? One may ask, has it cost those towns and cities any more to introduce such a scheme financially? I have heard no complaints from the shops where it has been adopted.
