An enforced change of goalkeeper due to illness after just a minute dented Stamford Bridge girls’ hopes as they went one behind to Poppleton.
The Bridge then introduced stand-in goalkeeper Ellie Fitzmaurice to the game and she was quickly picking the ball out of the net from another Poppleton raid.
But Stamford did not give up, their astute passing game creating good chances only to find the Poppleton ’keeper in top form.
Two more Poppleton goals were added before Stamford found a way through with an excellent strike from Millie Templeman only for Poppleton to seal a 5-1 win.
