Nestlé Rowntree ousted Pickering Town 4-2 in a thrilling York FA Senior Minor Cup tie.

The Rowntree ranks took the lead on two minutes when, following a flowing move and a cross from the right, Tom Kyte headed the ball into the net.

Pickering had a great chance to bring the scores level from the penalty spot, but Nestlè goalkeeper Pete Lawrie saved with his feet to deny Pikes captain Mark Williams.

Nestlè doubled their lead when Cody Atkin slotted the ball passed the Pickering ’keeper, but Pickering fought back strongly and by half-time had restored parity, firstly through an own goal and then a floated free-kick from Eddie Cass.

In the second half, both sides had chances to win but it was Nestlè who clinched victory through a Johny Sellars goal and a drilled shot from captain Matthew Yeoman.

Tadcaster Albion had mixed fortunes in the Under-15s and Under-14s Cups with the U15s defeating Woodthorpe Wanderers 4-3, while the U14s perished 5-4 at home to York Cubs Lions, who fought back from 3-0 down at half-time.

Also in the U14s Cup, Pickering Town and Thorpe United stood at 2-2 at the end of extra time.

The deadlock went down to the tenth penalty in the shoot-out, where Thorpe ’keeper Joe Swash produced a tremendous save to send his team into the semi-finals.

In the York FA Junior Minor Cup, Thorpe were leading 3-0 after 23 minutes against Copmanthorpe when referee Robert Stuart abandoned the match due to the atrocious conditions.

The tie was being replayed today alongside other postponed matches.

The only match to take place in the York FA Acaster Steel Cup was between Poppleton Tigers and Brooklyn.

Hosts Poppleton took the lead on ten minutes when Kieran Blundage netted with a shot from outside the penalty area.

A few minutes later a sweet one-two let in Alex Fletcher, who slotted the ball passed the Brooklyn ’keeper.

Before half-time Poppleton made the score 3-0 when, following a break down the left, the ball was cut back to Will Edmund, who netted from close range.

The second period was far more even and Brooklyn pulled a goal back, but midway through the half the result was effectively sealed when David Stanton netted in a goalmouth melée to confirm Poppleton’s 4-1 win.
