The only game to beat the weather in the York FA Under-19s Cup was at Thorpe, who entertained Rawcliffe, writes Bob Grainger.
The first half was even with no goals but chances going begging at both ends.
It was Rawcliffe who took the lead early in the second half when Alex Stevenson’s free-kick was headed into the Thorpe net by Dale Holding.
With 15 minutes of the match remaining, Sam Chapman equalised with a shot from the edge of the penalty area to force the tie into extra time.
In the first period, Thorpe took the lead when goal-poacher Adam Gill netted from close range.
Rawcliffe threw everything into attack in the search for an equaliser, but it proved a quest in vain as they were caught out by a late breakaway goal from James Leadbetter for Thorpe to eliminate the cup holders.
