York schoolboys Under-14s produced an outstanding display to beat a strong and committed Middlesbrough team 3-1.

James Hudson and Billy Chadwick worked hard up front to create an opening but York’s chances were few and far between.

A through ball from Jamie Barkway and a mazy run from James Hudson saw him hit the cross bar, while Sam Ripley-Kitson, Ollie Adamson and Billy Chadwick also went close.

Against the run of play Middlesbrough took the lead with a powerful header.

The second half saw York step up a gear and the equaliser came from a swift move started by the lively James Green, whose fierce cross-cum-shot was spilled by the Middlesbrough ’keeper for Barkway to react and score.

Hudson began to tear the away defence apart and the second goal was initiated by debutant James Kilmartin, whose cross found Barkway for his and York’s second.

The visitiors started to come back into the game but Alex Horsman marshalled York’s defence well before the third and decisive strike from Hudson capped a fine display.
