New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies had a good win in the North Eastern League, beating Hornsea 84-64 and picking up nine of the ten points at stake.

At home, Kath Sykes team were in control for most of the game, leading 22-10 with five ends to play. Though they lost four of them, they still won 23-19.

Kath Hardcastle’s side made a great comeback after being 15-6 behind after 12 ends.

They led 16-15 going into the last but a dropped single only gave them a draw.

Away, both rinks had excellent wins with Diane Hardy’s team winning 23-17, while Pat Storey’s team led all the way, making the most of scoring seven shots to only one against between the tenth and 15th ends to lead 20-10. They won 22-12.

York IBC were unfortunate in their match against Doncaster.

They led 56-54 after 15 ends, were then level at 64-64 three ends before eventually perishing 77-70.

At home, Pauline Cooper’s side led from start to finish and were never threatened in their 25-13 victory.

Pat Bracken’s team picked up a five on the 14th end to lead 15-13 but were one down going into the last at 19-18. However, a single gave them a deserved draw.

Away, Joyce Gee’s team played so well, and led 17-9 with seven ends to play. But with one wood to go they trailed 19-17 and were two shots down before Gee moved the jack and picked up a single to only go down by one shot.

Irene Paylor’s side struggled and lost 26-8.

Both York and New Earswick were left frustrated in the Hebden Trophy, both losing by narrow margins.

York won both home rinks against North Cave easily with Brian Thomas’s making the most of a good start which saw them leading 11-0 after only five ends. They also scored 11 unanswered shots on their last four ends to win 32-11.

Tony Bryan’s team did well. Trailing 14-2 after only eight ends, a big defeat looked on the cards but they came back well and took the lead for the first time with a four on the 15th end to lead 17-16. They went on to win 23-18.

Away, Eric Hodgson’s team were level at 11-11 after 11 ends, but lost 27-13, while Jim Robertson’s dropped six shots over the last two ends to go down 28-14.

York lost 84-82.

New Earswick’s only winning rink from their 66-63 defeat against South Leeds, came from Bob Howland’s team who led from start to finish in a match where singles were scored in all but five ends. They triumphed 19-7.

Dave Hutchinson’s team were made to pay for a poor start which saw them trailing 13-1 after nine ends. They subsequently lost 23-12.

Away, Terry Shepherdson’s team had done well to come from 13-5 down to lead 17-16 with three ends to play but they lost all three and the game 21-17.

Dave Thompson’s side needed a two on their last end to get a draw, but could only pick up a single and went down 16-15.
