THE 12-YEAR-OLD boy who was hit by a car as he walked home from school in York last week has been discharged from hospital.

The pupil at Archbishop Holgate’s CE School suffered head and abdominal injuries in the crash at the pedestrian crossing opposite the Black Bull pub, in Hull Road, at about 4pm on Friday.

Police said the incident happened after the boy was believed to have stepped backwards on to the road into the path of a Skoda Fabia car after walking over the crossing with a group of other pupils from the school.

They said the boy was thrown up on to the windscreen of the car, whose driver, a man in his 60s, stopped immediately. Nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

The school’s head teacher, John Harris, has praised other pupils for the way they had helped police after the accident.
