A MOTORIST has been arrested after a 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a smash on a North Yorkshire road.

Police are seeking witnesses to the collision, which happened shortly after 6pm yesterday on the A61 at Hutton Conyers, near Ripon.

Police said the collision involved a red and white Yamaha motorcycle, a white Mercedes van and a green Volvo V40.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “The van was making a right turn when the motorcycle collided with the rear. The Volvo then collided with the motorcyclist.

“The driver of the Volvo, a man in his 60s from the Ripon area, was arrested at the scene and has been released on bail while inquiries continue.”

He said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and police closed the road until 2.30am today to investigate the collision.

Anybody who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicles prior to the collision, is asked to phone TC Dave Seavers on 0845 60 60 247.
