A “STAGGERING” number of drivers are still risking their lives and the lives of others by flouting the basic laws of the road, a police operation has found.
The Micklegate Safer Neighbourhood Team has launched Operation Jamboree, tackling motorists who regularly flout the law and place themselves and others in danger on the roads.
Over a three hour period at the launch, 15 motorists were given either endorsable or non-endorsable fixed penalty notices for committing traffic offences at Micklegate Bar.
Sergeant Neil Wood, in charge of the operation said “We regularly receive complaints from members of the community about inconsiderate and dangerous driving including jumping traffic lights and drivers chatting on mobile phones.
“Operation Jamboree will be repeated at various times to demonstrate that we do take these offences seriously.”
