Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hardy charmed guests at the prestigious Dance Against Hunger Ball in York, which raised more than £21,000.

Guests at the sold-out event were treated to an exclusive dance masterclass by the international champion at the Royal York Hotel. Karen said: “It was a pleasure to be in York, supporting the crucial work Action Against Hunger does in the fight against world malnutrition.

“The night was a fabulous success, with high-quality dancing and excellent food, giving everyone their very own Strictly Come Dancing experience.” The event also saw nine Yorkshire couples battle it out after only six weeks of training, courtesy of York School Of Dance And Drama, in the evening’s dance-off, where they were subject to the professional eye of the judging panel, which included Karen and her husband. The winners, as voted for by the audience, were Gavin and Julie Simmons, who danced the Mixed Latin.

Hosted by BBC presenter Adam Tomlinson, the black-tie event took place in a ballroom-themed room. For more information about Action Against Hunger visit actionagainsthunger.org.uk
