THOUSANDS of homes in York were left without water this afternoon after a burst main cut off their supplies.
The problems with a pipe on Wigginton Road affected residents in Haxby, Wigginton, Strensall, Huntington, Rawcliffe and Earswick, with Yorkshire Water being inundated with calls from worried customers at around midday.
Engineers have since rezoned the supply to the homes affected and a spokeswoman for the company said their water would be running again from between 2pm and 2.30pm today.
The cause of tbe burst in the 18-inch pipe, between Huntington and Rawcliffe, is not yet known and the spokeswoman said: "We apologise to all customer affected for any inconvenience caused and thank those who contacted us to bring the problem to our attention."
