Their winners were Mike Walsh, Kevin Hopper, Justin Morris, Simon England (black ball), James Lee and Tim Lister (42 break). Colin Robinson won Bootham’s sole point.

Malton ‘A’ also recorded a 6-1 success over Acomb ‘B’. Richard Williamson, Paul Hart (25bk), Nick Dyson (21, 24bks), Tim Fogging and Roger Ward (22, 23bks) won the match before Andy Stone clawed one back. David Coulthard made it 6-1 for Malton.

Bootham were hoping to bounce back from their first defeat in the York Conservative Clubs Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League but Heworth went into a 4-0 lead helped by a critical black ball result.

Bootham won their last two games but failed to gain the aggregate by five points so Heworth took the match 5-2.

Bootham ‘A’ inflicted the first defeat of the season on their ‘B’ team when they romped to a 5-2 win in the York Conservative Clubs Faber Shield Billiards League.

Paul Mahoney gave the ‘B’ team a start with a nine-point win only for Nick Parker to level.

Ken Taylor made breaks of 45 and 24 but Tim Fillingham replied with 57 and 21 to put the ‘B’ team 2-1 up.

John Woodall (20bk), Barry Rankin (34bk) and John Darley made it 4-2 and the ‘A’ team easily gained the aggregate.

Heworth continued their recovery with a 6-1 victory over bottom placed Acomb.

They went 4-0 ahead through Gary Rogers (63, 59bks), Jason Milner, Vic Gamble and Steve Burdett (23, 25, 27, 32bks).

Adrian Barrowclough then won Acomb’s sole point before Mark Winskill (28bk) sealed Heworth’s win.
