A staggering 36,000 bulbs are to be planted in York’s Museum Gardens.

Sjaak Kastelijn, garden manager, has chosen the bulbs, including 5,000 tulips, 10,000 crocuses, 10,000 daffodils, as part of the botanical garden’s aim to increase the amount of different specimens on show.

In total there will be 44 different varieties of flowers planted for the displays which will transform the gardens at the end of winter and into spring.

Mr Kastelijn said: “We have a beautiful botanical gardens here, but it is York Museums Trust’s aim to enhance it even further by increasing the variety of plants.

“These bulbs will burst into life next spring and bring a fantastic colourful display to different areas of the gardens. They will hopefully be a welcome to the addition to the gardens and bring a smile to people’s faces as they visit or pass through.”
