A WOMAN who hurled a glass and a beer pump handle at one of the bosses of a York pub has admitted her shame after her outburst of anger landed her in court.

Michelle Louise Archer swore at staff at the Carlton Tavern, in Acomb Road, when she claimed they had served her the wrong drink before attacking the pub’s property.

The missiles thrown by Archer, 36, missed assistant manager Andrew Shepherd, but shattered bottles behind the bar.

York Crown Court heard that Archer, of Gale Lane, Acomb, had been drinking in the pub on July 22 when trouble flared as workers prepared to close the premises for the night.

Stephanie Hancock, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Bar staff went outside for a cigarette when Archer approached them and was aggressive towards them.

“She swore at them and shouted ‘You gave us the wrong drink’ despite the staff’s efforts to calm her down. They then went inside and Archer walked down the length of the bar and deliberately turned the drink pumps back on.

“When Andrew Shepherd, the assistant manager, turned them off again, she grabbed one of the pump handles, snapped it off and threw it across the bar before also throwing a pint glass towards him.

“It missed and Mr Shepherd did not have to swerve out of the way, but it smashed a display of bottles behind the bar.”

Police were called to the scene shortly afterwards, and when interviewed by them, Archer owned up to throwing the items.

She admitted a public order offence and two charges of criminal damage and was given a 12-month community order with 100 hours’ unpaid work. She told the court from the dock: “I am ashamed”.

Sentencing Archer, Recorder Eric Elliott QC said: “You are not a woman with a violent record, but drink got the better of you and you lost your temper.

“I am sure you are ashamed of your conduct that night – put it behind you.”
