TEENAGER Timothy Priest had a hair-raising experience for charity.

The 17-year-old underwent a sponsored headshave to raise more than £1,500 for In The Father’s Hand, which runs church services for people with learning disabilities and complex needs in and around York.

Most of the hair shaved is being donated to the Little Princess Trust to make a wig for children suffering from hair loss.

Timothy said: “I have often been asked by potential sponsors why I want to have my hair shaved in one of the coldest parts of the year. The answer is – I don’t!

“I’ve been growing my hair for about three years now and I’ve become quite attached to it. But I think In the Father’s Hand is so important that I’m prepared to ‘go cool’ so that this work can both continue and expand. I am very grateful to all my sponsors who have helped make this possible. I just hope they can cope with the new me.”

The next In The Father’s Hand service is from 2pm to 4pm next Saturday at St Paul’s Church, Holgate.
