YORK RUFC Under-13s staged a stirring second half comeback to beat Pocklington 19-10.
The young Clifton Parkers rung the changes and it was the East Yorkshire side who scored first – squeezing in at the corner with the York defence stretched.
Ben Davies broke with the ball, following a driving maul, to level matters but Pock went into the break 10-5 ahead following another score.
Chris Cambridge pulled York level again with a super try, outpacing both the visitors’ winger and covering full-back to sprint round and behind the posts.
Oliver Leedham’s conversion gave York the lead for the first time.
The two-point gap hung for most of the second half but George Gao relaxed the crowd when he drove into the heart of the Pocklington pack, broke straight through and ran for the touchdown. Leedham’s conversion ended the match.
The U15s also met Pocklington, while, last week, rugby union and league legend John Bentley – now working for Leeds Carnegie – joined colleague Rob Rawlinson in a coaching session with the U17s and U19s.
And the British Lions star seemed to work his magic, with the U17s beating Barnsley 66-5 and the U19s also winning 35-24 against Wharfedale.
